When a vessel is built, a Fire Control and Safety Plan is drawn up in accordance with SOLAS regulations. The plan is normally formulated on a standard General Arrangement drawing which include many details not necessary on a poster which should detail the vessel's fire and safety equipment only. Further, for identifying the various equipment, symbols denoted by the yards are used. Quite recently, however, the IMO introduced standard symbols for use in detailing all fire and safety equipment depicted on fire and safety plans.

Vessels, which have been in service for some time, are equipped with plans made up of symbols not in compliance with the IMO-recommended standard symbols. Further, the Plans are basically, as mentioned above, formulated on a detailed G.A Plan. All the details on those basic drawings make the finished Plans unclear and difficult to read.

Finally, the original Plans are often in a badly faded condition and details are difficult to read.

Hudson Marine Management Services (HMMS) has upgraded many Fire Control and Safety Plans for a number of clients. To undertake the task, the vessel's structure is digitized and all new IMO recommended symbols are overlayed. A "List of Symbols" is also created completing the plan.

In order to upgrade existing Fire Control and Safety Plans to IMO standard, the following information is required.

  • A General Arrangement Plan
  • The original Fire Control and Safety Plans

Sometimes the safety equipment is specified on a separate plan (Safety Plan). In this case both the original plans to be supplied in order to combine these two.

Hudson Marine requires approximately six weeks to complete the work and have the finished plan approved by the Administration and/or Class.

Hudson Marine Management Services' safety plans are customized for each client. Please contact us to request additional information or if you have any questions about our Fire Control and Safety Plans.
